Get Toned And Fit With The Help Of A Little Technology

Tech Gear Helps People Of All Skill Levels Get In Shape And Stay Motivated!

In addition to serving as a full-time Communications Specialist for the Consumer Electronics Association, Colleen Lerro finds the time to teach two classes a day as a fitness instructor. She lives, eats, and breathes maintaining a healthy lifestyle. So what would surprise someone this dedicated to exercise and wellness?

It turns out, a study on how technology is improving our health and fitness would.

The CEA study, which was conducted between July 26th and August 5th of 2010, sampled 1,303 adults and found some interesting information about consumers and their exercise regimens.

For starters, it must have been incredibly interesting for Colleen to learn that 76 percent of consumers exercise alone without the guidance of exercise professionals.

Some other study highlights included:

o 54 percent of consumers cite a lack of motivation as being their main reason for not exercising.
o 37 percent of consumers anticipate purchasing a fitness technology in the next twelve months.

What devices could those “fitness technologies” be this year? Look out for tools like:

o New and improved heart rate monitors
o Devices that can turn your personal road bike into a stationary exercise bicycle
o Wellness apps for the phones of elderly users that can remind them to take their medicine
o Sunglasses that display the users heart rate and other information on the lens
o And alarm clocks that choose the most peaceful time to wake you, based on what level of sleep you are in during a 20 minute window of time.
