The effectiveness of a low-carb diet versus a low-fat for weight loss have been frequently debated. According to a new study published in Annals of Internal Medicine, both diets produce identical weight loss when coupled with comprehensive behavior treatment, but a low-carb diet may help improve cardiovascular risk factors.
Three hundred and seven patients were randomly assigned either a low-carb or a low- fat diet with behavioral intervention. After two years, dieters on a low carbohydrate regimen had more than twice the improvement in good cholesterol, or HDL, levels when compated with the low fat group.
